Wellington K. Hsu, MD currently serves with distinction as the Clifford C. Raisbeck, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Hsu serves as Director of Research for the Musculoskeletal Institute at Northwestern Medicine and also holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Hsu’s clinical practice focuses on the use of minimally invasive procedures to treat spinal disorders. Dr. Hsu has been widely recognized for his expertise and helped introduce these novel technologies internationally.
As part of the Simpson Querrey Institute of Bionanotechnology, the Hsu laboratory focuses on developing novel biomaterials for bone regeneration. Dr. Hsu and his wife, Erin L. Hsu, PhD, research assistant professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Feinberg have work in the development of new nanotechnology-based biomaterials to form bone that has received international recognition.
From a clinical perspective, Dr. Hsu’s efforts to improve the delivery of orthopaedic care to elite athletes has led to more than 25 publications and 100 international presentations on the topic. Additionally, Dr. Hsu and his colleagues have increased their understanding of the impact of these injuries and postulated that different types of rehabilitation programs may improve return-to-play rates and performance after treatment. He currently serves as a member of the Head, Neck, and Spine Medical Committee of the National Football League.
